Six services, each with the scope it covers, the price it is quoted at and a note on who it suits. A price that begins with “from” is a starting figure and is confirmed in an estimate before work begins.

Diagnostic inspection

The vehicle is road tested where it is safe to do so, the stored fault codes are read, and the findings are written up in plain language with a repair option and a price before anything else is agreed.

Oil service
from $74
The oil is drained warm, the filter and sump washer are replaced, and the grade specified for the engine is used and written on the record. The starting price covers a standard capacity; larger engines are quoted first.

Brake inspection

Each wheel is removed, the pad and disc thickness is measured against the manufacturer limit, the flexible hoses and the fluid condition are checked, and the measurements are handed over whether or not work follows.

Battery test

The battery is load tested and the charging output is measured at idle and under load, so a starting problem can be separated from a charging problem. The reading is written down and handed over at the counter.

Cooling-system service

The system is pressure tested cold, the coolant is drained and replaced with the specified type, and the cap, hoses and fan operation are checked. The starting price assumes no component replacement; anything further is quoted first.

Pre-purchase inspection

A used vehicle is inspected on the ramp and road tested, and the body, brakes, tyres, fluids and fault codes are reported in writing. The report describes what was found and does not recommend or refuse a purchase.

The counter
The vehicle and the symptom are written down, a service is chosen from the board, and the price for that scope is stated before the keys change hands.

The ramp
The work is carried out to the agreed scope. Anything found beyond it is brought back to the counter and quoted separately rather than added.

The hand-over
The findings and any measurements are handed over in writing, with the parts removed available to look at.
