About the workshop
A two-ramp workshop on Garrison Avenue, set up so that the price a customer is told and the price on the invoice describe the same piece of work.
Garrison Motor Works occupies a single unit on Garrison Avenue with two ramps, a bench along the back wall and a counter at the front. The counter is where a job starts and where it ends, and the ramp is not asked to make a decision the counter has not already written down.
The service board is fixed. Six services, six prices, and a written scope against each one. A price marked “from” names a floor and is confirmed in an estimate; a price without that word is what the stated scope costs. Nothing is sold from the ramp.
Three fixed principles
-
Scope before price
A price means nothing until the work it covers is written down. The scope is agreed first and the figure is quoted against it.
-
Nothing added on the ramp
Anything found beyond the agreed scope comes back to the counter as a separate quote. It is never added to a job already running.
-
The measurements go with the car
Pad thickness, fluid condition, charging output: whatever was measured is handed over in writing, whether or not work follows.
A job, end to end
-
Step 1
Written down
The vehicle, the symptom and the chosen service are recorded at the counter, and the price for that scope is stated.
-
Step 2
Inspected
The vehicle goes on the ramp for the agreed work. Findings are recorded as they are made rather than from memory afterwards.
-
Step 3
Quoted again if needed
Anything beyond the scope is brought back and quoted on its own. Approval is asked for before it is started.
-
Step 4
Handed back
The findings, the measurements and any parts removed are handed over, and the invoice matches the scope that was agreed.
What the workshop does not do
No bodywork or paint, no tyre fitting, and no recovery. A vehicle that is unsafe to drive is not diagnosed remotely over the telephone; it is described on the contact form and the next step is agreed from there.
Describe the symptom
A short description of the vehicle and what it is doing is enough to have a service named and a scope written down.
