Eight photographs of the work itself

Four groups, eight plates: the table where a lesson is worked through, the screen an online session runs on, the rooms where learners study, and the notes that carry a lesson into the week. These are licensed photographs chosen to show the kind of work Quillfield does; none of them shows a Quillfield learner, tutor or room.

01 — At the table

Where a lesson is worked through on paper.

A heavy dark wooden table in a panelled reading alcove below a leaded bay window in an old library.
A heavy table in the alcove of an old library reading room. A lesson needs little more than this: a flat surface, even light and nothing else on the desk.
An adult hand pointing to a numbered step on a printed page of diagrams while a younger hand holds the edge of the booklet.
An adult pointing to one numbered step on a page of diagrams while a younger hand holds the booklet open. One step at a time is how most explanations actually land.

Notes written out beside an open textbook and a calculator. Worked examples are copied out by hand so they can be re-read before the next test.

02 — Online sessions

The same lesson, on a screen.

A hand resting on a laptop keyboard in low evening light, the edge of the screen visible at the top of the frame.
A hand on a laptop keyboard late in the day. Online sessions use a shared whiteboard and run to the same length and price as lessons in the study room.

03 — Study rooms

Quiet, bright rooms with books close by.

Rows of wooden bookshelves under a white panelled ceiling in a bright public library.
Rows of wooden shelves in a bright public library. Many learners do their best independent work in a room like this, between one lesson and the next.

04 — Notes and follow-up

What carries a lesson into the rest of the week.

A wooden reading stand on a desk under a blue desk lamp, with handwritten sticky notes covering the wall behind it.
A reading stand under a desk lamp, the wall behind covered in handwritten sticky notes. A short list of what to practise does more than a long one.
A person writing with a gold pen in a ruled planner resting on their knee, a plate of pastries on the desk beside them.
A planner open on a knee with a week of study written in by hand. The study-skills sessions start from exactly this kind of page.
A long library room with low bookshelves running beside floor-to-ceiling windows that look out on pine trees.
