The plan below is a drawing, not a map. It keys eight Asheville districts to the kind of ground each one tends to hold, so an enquiry can say where the garden is before it says what is wrong with it.

- 02 West Asheville Small front plots, sloping back yards and new planting.
- 03 Kenilworth Terraced hillside gardens held by retaining walls.
- 04 North Asheville Larger lawns, long hedges and established borders.
- 05 Biltmore Village Formal street planting and clipped boundary hedges.
- 06 Oakley Level plots on heavy clay, where drainage decides the planting.
- 07 Haw Creek Creekside ground, damp lawns and planted banks.
- 08 Arden Open gardens with wind exposure and young trees.
