Questions and answers

Ten questions, grouped by what they are about: how a garment is fitted, how timing and price work, and how an altered garment is looked after afterwards.

Fit

Choosing the work, and what suits the garment

How should a visitor choose a service?

Start from the service descriptions on the Services page, which state what each alteration includes and where its scope ends. Most garments fall clearly into one of them: a hem, a waist adjustment, a jacket fitting. When two options look equally suitable, or the garment has been altered before, the contact form is the faster route. Describe the garment and the result wanted, and the workshop says which service fits.

What should a first-time visitor prepare?

Bring the garment and the shoes or underlayers it will be worn with, because hem length and waist position are measured against what the garment is actually worn over. A photograph of the intended look helps explain the result, though it guides the conversation rather than being copied exactly. If there is a date the garment is needed by, say so at the start, because it changes which services are realistic.

Is trouser hem suitable for every customer?

Not always. A trouser hem is straightforward on most fabrics, but heavily patterned cloth, an original cuff, a lining or a previous alteration each change the method and the price. Trousers with little seam allowance left cannot be lengthened at all. The bench looks at the existing hem before quoting, and the contact form can be used to ask in advance if the garment is unusual.

Can a visitor request a specific staff member?

Yes. The contact form carries a message field, and naming a preferred bench there is enough to record the request. Availability is confirmed separately, because each specialist carries different work at different times, and a fitting date is agreed in the reply rather than on this site. Every service on the list is covered by more than one person, so a request never becomes the only way to have the work done.

If the question is about one particular garment, it is quicker to ask directly. Send a question instead.

Timing

Scheduling, prices and changes

Does the website complete a booking?

No. This site sends a contact request or opens the configured Book destination; it does not confirm an appointment, take a deposit or hold a time. A submitted form means the message reached the endpoint and nothing more. The workshop replies separately to agree a fitting time, and until that reply arrives nothing has been reserved.

How are changes or cancellations handled?

Use the contact form and say which fitting is affected, naming the garment and the agreed date. The business confirms any change directly rather than through this site, because the site holds no appointment record. Where work has already begun, the reply explains what has been done and what that means for the price. Earlier notice gives the bench more room to move other work.

Are the displayed prices final?

Published prices apply to the stated scope of each service. A price introduced by the word from is a starting point: linings, pleats, patterned cloth, multiple layers and previous alterations all add work, and each is assessed with the garment in hand. Any custom or open-ended price is confirmed as an estimate before work begins, so the figure agreed at the fitting is the figure charged.

Garment care

After the work, and how information is handled

How should an altered garment be washed and pressed?

Follow the care label the garment already carries, because an alteration does not change it. New stitching settles after the first wear, so a freshly pressed hem is better hung than folded away immediately. Press from the inside on a low setting where the fabric allows, and use a pressing cloth on wool and on anything with a sheen. If a fabric behaved unusually on the bench, the workshop says so at collection.

What happens if a garment does not fit after collection?

Bring it back and say what is wrong with it. A fitting is measured on one day, and shoes, posture and bodies change, so an alteration that no longer sits right is a normal thing to raise. The bench looks at the garment first: where the original work can simply be moved, that is what happens, and where a new alteration is needed, its scope and price are agreed before anything is opened.

Where can privacy information be found?

The Privacy page explains it in full. It covers what the contact and subscribe forms collect, why each field is asked for, who else receives the information, how long it is kept and how to ask for removal. Nothing on this site collects more than the forms show, and the subscribe list holds one email address with nothing attached to it.

Ask about a garment

A description of the garment and the result wanted is enough to start. The workshop replies with the times a fitting can be held.
