About the studio
Fernhollow Hair Studio is an independent hair salon on Haywood Road in West Asheville, North Carolina.
The studio opened in 2014 with two chairs and now has four stylists, a color bar and two wash basins. It offers six services: a precision cut, a dry cut for curls, single-process color, hand-painted balayage, a blowout and a gloss with deep conditioning. Each is listed with a single price and the length of time the chair is held for it.
The consultation is treated as part of the service rather than a formality. Every appointment begins with a conversation at the chair about the hair as it is, the result wanted and what the chosen service can realistically do, so the plan and the price are settled before any work begins.

Every service is published with its price. Anything that would change it is raised at the consultation, before scissors or color touch the hair.

Straight, wavy, curly and coily hair are all cut and colored here, by stylists who work with each of them every week.

When a change needs two visits to be done safely, the studio says so rather than pushing the hair past what it can take in one sitting.

What the studio does not do
Fernhollow Hair Studio does not offer chemical relaxers, keratin straightening, hair extensions or straight-razor shaves, and it does not advise on hair loss or scalp conditions, which are matters for a dermatologist. Where a request needs one of those, the studio says so when it is asked rather than taking the appointment.
