A considered cut, an agreed price and time to talk it through

Fernhollow Hair Studio is an independent salon on Haywood Road. Every service is listed with its price and how long it takes, and every appointment starts with a consultation at the chair.

Six services, priced and timed

Each service lists what it includes, what it costs and how long the chair is held for it. A price changes only when a change is agreed at the consultation, never at the desk afterwards.

How an appointment works

Every appointment opens with a consultation at the chair: what the hair is doing now, what it should do six weeks from now and what the chosen service can realistically deliver. Fernhollow Hair Studio cuts and colors every hair type and texture. Where a request needs more time than was set aside, such as a large change of color, the studio says so at the consultation and offers a second appointment rather than rushing the first.

Tools, chairs and color

Who is behind the chair

Four stylists work at Fernhollow. The owner, who takes most cuts and restyles, and the color director, who leads every color appointment, are introduced here.

  • A pink salon wash basin with a chair set in front of it, from a 1970s salon interior.

    Marisol Duarte

    Owner and senior stylist

Opened the studio in 2014 and takes most precision cuts and complete restyles, starting every one with an unhurried consultation.

  • A pink hand-held salon hair dryer with its coiled hose, photographed on a blue backdrop.

    Theo Lindqvist

    Color director

Leads every balayage and single-process color, mixing each formula by weight and recording it for the next visit.

What clients have said

  • Marisol asked how I actually style my hair on a work morning before suggesting anything, and the cut she described is the cut I left with.

Hannah R., Precision cut and finish

  • Theo was straightforward that a proper balayage would take two visits, and three months on the grow-out is soft with no line at the root.

    Denise M., Hand-painted balayage

  • Priya cut my curls dry, one at a time, and I could watch the shape come together in the mirror as she went.

Carla J., Dry cut for curls

Asked often

How should someone choose between two services?

Start with the descriptions, prices and times on the services page. When two look equally right, such as a precision cut and a dry cut for curls, a short note in the contact form about the hair and how it is usually worn is enough for the studio to recommend one.

Does a price ever change on the day?

The listed price covers the service as described. If very long or very thick hair needs extra product or time, the stylist says so at the consultation, before any work begins, and the client decides then.

What should a first-time client bring?

Arrive with the hair worn the way it normally is, not freshly washed or tied back, so the stylist can see how it falls. Two or three photographs of a wanted result help, and so does a note of any color or chemical service in the past year.

Can a client ask for a particular stylist?

Yes. Name the stylist in the contact form or when calling, and the studio replies with that stylist's open times for the service requested.

Ask about an appointment

The name of a service and a rough time range is enough to start. Fernhollow Hair Studio replies with the chair times that are actually open.
