A new bed or border cut, edged and planted to an agreed plan: turf lifted, soil loosened and improved with compost, plants set out on the ground in their pots for approval before they go in, and a two-inch layer of shredded bark mulch to finish. The figure covers a bed of up to 30 by 4 feet with plants supplied at nursery price. Typical time on site is one to two days.

Suits a lawn edge, fence line or front walk that needs planting rather than mowing.

A path dug out to a firm base, laid on compacted crushed stone and finished in pea gravel or in flat stones set into gravel, with a steel or stone edge to hold the line. The figure covers a straight gravel path up to 25 feet long and 3 feet wide; flagstone and curves are priced on site. Typical time on site is two to three days.

Suits a worn line across a lawn, or a route to a shed, gate or vegetable garden.

A low retaining or free-standing wall built without mortar from fieldstone, on a dug and compacted gravel footing, with every stone set across two below it and the face leaning slightly back into the slope so the wall drains and settles as one. The figure covers a wall up to 12 feet long and 2 feet high. Typical time on site is two to four days, depending on how much stone has to be sorted.

Suits a slope that needs holding back, or a bed that needs a permanent edge.

Raised beds built from untreated cedar boards, sited for sun and for access from both sides, lined with mesh where burrowing animals are a problem and filled with a screened soil and compost mix, with mulched paths between them. The figure covers two beds of 4 by 8 feet, 12 inches deep. Typical time on site is one day.

Suits a household that wants to grow vegetables or herbs close to the kitchen door.

A two-hour visit to walk the site, note sun, slope, soil, drainage and access, and talk through what the garden is for. A measured sketch plan with a written list of priorities and likely costs follows by email within a week of the visit. The fee is set against any job built from the plan.

Suits a property where nothing is decided yet, or a plan that needs a second opinion.

One visit of up to two hours by a crew of two on a garden of up to a quarter acre: hedges and shrubs trimmed, beds weeded and edged, spent growth cut back and every clipping taken away. The price is per visit. Visits are booked singly or as a spring, summer and autumn round, and the list for each visit is agreed in advance.
