A repair job, drawn before it is quoted

Benchmark Motor Works measures a car before pricing work on it. The photograph below is annotated with the four things a technician looks at first, and the key beside it names every one.

A car raised on a workshop ramp with its front end opened up, tools and equipment around the bay
Car on the ramp, repair bay, annotated

Key to the annotated photograph

  1. 01 Door line and sill, near side
  2. 02 Bay lighting above the ramp
  3. 03 Front wheel and tire
  4. 04 Front end opened for access

Three of the four keyed points are looked at before anything is undone. The fourth is this car's front end, already opened for access.

How a call is run

A job starts with measurement rather than with an opinion. Stored fault codes, live sensor data, pad and disc thickness and the state of the fluids are all read and written down before any part is priced. What follows is a scope on paper with a figure against it, and nothing outside that scope is carried out without a separate approval.

From the workshop file

Three plates from the gallery. Each one is labelled with the part it shows and where that part sits on the car.

  • A brake disc and caliper on a wheel hub with the wheel removed, the studs and flexible hose visible.

  • Brake pipes and flexible hoses being fitted and tightened along a car's chassis rail.

The team

Four roles cover the six services. A preferred technician can be named on the contact form and availability is confirmed separately.

  • A technician in overalls working on the suspension of a car raised on a workshop lift.

    Dale Whitcomb

    Owner and lead technician

Leads diagnostic and repair-versus-replace work with a written account of symptoms, observations and options. The role separates what is known from what still needs measurement and does not promise a repair result before the car is inspected.

  • A hand drawing the dipstick to check the engine oil level under a raised hood.

    Renata Voss

    Service coordinator

Turns enquiries into useful job notes by confirming make, model, mileage, service history and the behavior being reported. This role explains the next response window without advertising round-the-clock or guaranteed emergency recovery.

Four questions

How should a visitor choose a service?

Start with the service descriptions and prices. Contact the business when two options appear equally suitable.

Are the displayed prices final?

Published prices apply to the stated scope. Any “from” or custom price requires a confirmed estimate before work begins.

What should a first-time visitor prepare?

Provide the make, model and mileage, a concise description of the fault and the service history if it is to hand. Do not attempt a repair that requires the car to be raised.

Can a visitor request a specific staff member?

Yes. Use the contact form to name a preferred staff member; availability is confirmed separately.

Start with a diagnostic scan

Readings first, written down and shown, with the options set out before anything is fitted.

Service notes, occasionally

An email when a service interval is worth a reminder or a recall affects a common model. No fixed schedule, and one link in every message removes an address from the list.
